In-person handover code
Each person has a private 6-digit code on their swap page. Only show your code AFTER you've checked the item in your hands. Your partner enters it, which proves you received it — no “I never got it” later.
How swaps work — and how we protect you
Tradesly is item for item, never money. Here's exactly what happens in every swap and what stops people from taking an item and disappearing.
The swap, step by step
1. Verified account
Everyone must confirm their email before they can list, message, send offers or swap. Items worth more than €100 need a verified phone or ID, or two completed swaps.
2. Agreement is frozen
When both of you accept, we save a copy of both items — photos, condition, description. Nobody can change what was promised afterwards.
3. Swap activates
Nobody is asked to send anything until the swap is active for both sides. This stops one person sending into a swap the other never joins.
4. Send or meet
By courier: add the courier and a real tracking number within 72 hours. In person: meet in a busy public place and use the handover code.
5. Inspect and confirm
You have 48 hours after delivery to check the item. Confirm it's fine, or report “not received” or “not as described” — the swap is frozen for review.
6. Completed
When both sides confirm, the items officially change owner and you both leave a rating.
Protection built in
Strict deadlines
If someone doesn't send within the deadline, the swap is cancelled and it counts against their reliability. Repeat offenders are suspended.
Keep evidence
Photograph the item, the packed box and the shipping label before sending. Film the unboxing of valuable items. Upload this if a review is opened.
Reviews of every problem
If something goes wrong, our team compares tracking, photos and both statements. Accounts proven to have cheated are banned and details can be shared with police.
Our advice for valuable items
- Prefer meeting in person, in a busy public place, and use the handover code.
- Swap with members who have ratings and completed swaps.
- Always use tracked, signed-for delivery when shipping.
- Never pay money, share codes before inspecting, or move the deal outside Tradesly.
